“There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe that had been given to him. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children.
“Then one day the rich man came and took the lamb of the poor man. When the poor man protested, the rich man said unto him ‘the man who gave you this lamb was a man of poor character, and I do not approve of him. His gift to you is tainted by his unworthiness, and I must take your lamb away as a warning to anyone who would do the same.’ As the rich man turned away he shouted ‘don’t be sad! The important thing is that we affirm the traditional Biblical view of marriage!’”
